Rooftop bars

The classic opening for a hen party. Sky Bar, Vertigo, Octave or Red Sky: arrive before sunset to get a table. Most refuse flip-flops, very short shorts and sportswear. Vertigo and Moon Bar are closed for renovation until 2 December 2026. Book ahead for tables of more than six.

The dinner cruise

A buffet, music and floodlit temples: the easiest evening to book for a group. "White Orchid with free-flow beer" is the cheapest; other boats (Grand, Princess, Noah without alcohol) are compared in our dinner cruise guide. Boats leave from ICONSIAM or Asiatique depending on the option.

Muay thai and cooking class

Where to go out at night

  • Sukhumvit (Soi 11, Thonglor): bars and clubs for travellers and expats, the easiest for a mixed group.
  • Khao San Road: street party, cheap beer, very loud; see Khao San Road.
  • Silom and Sathorn: rooftops and hotel bars, calmer.
  • Soi Cowboy and Nana Plaza: adult bar districts, described in our guide. Go knowing what they are and keep the group together.

Rules and safety

  • Alcohol: you must be 20; shop sales run 11 am to midnight and are banned on Buddhist holidays (next alcohol-free day: Monday 26 October 2026). Details in alcohol in Bangkok. Carry your passport or a copy: bars ask for ID.
  • E-cigarettes: banned in Thailand; see the e-cigarette rule.
  • Cannabis: do not assume it is "allowed"; read the cannabis rules.
  • Drinks: never leave a drink unattended and never leave anyone alone. See night safety and scams to avoid.
  • Getting back: use a metered taxi or Grab (Grab or taxi), as a group.
  • Dress: shoulders and knees covered in temples (temple dress code); no disrespectful costumes near a temple or an image of the king.

For three days, count per person: a cooking class (about 33 to 44 USD), a dinner cruise (about 33 to 45 USD), a muay thai ticket (about 27 EUR), plus bar drinks, which are most of the budget.
