The most popular rooftops

Bangkok seen from the Mahanakhon tower

  • Sky Bar (Lebua at State Tower, Silom): a half-circle terrace on the 63th floor, made famous by a film shot in Bangkok. Views of the river and the business district. The best known, so the busiest at sunset.
  • Vertigo and Moon Bar (Banyan Tree Bangkok, Sathorn): an open-air terrace at the top of the hotel, near Lumphini Park. Service may stop in rain or strong wind. Note: Vertigo and Moon Bar are closed for renovation until 2 December 2026.
  • Octave (Marriott Sukhumvit, Thong Lo): several levels at the top of a hotel, with views over Sukhumvit, in a nightlife district.
  • Red Sky (Centara Grand at CentralWorld, Ratchaprasong): at the top of a hotel linked to the Siam and Chit Lom pedestrian skywalk, so easy to reach by BTS.
  • The Mahanakhon bar: at the top of the King Power Mahanakhon tower, it pairs with the observation deck (see our Mahanakhon SkyWalk page).

Observation decks versus rooftops

An observation deck is visited with an entry ticket; a rooftop bar is a bar where you buy drinks. Baiyoke Sky and the Mahanakhon SkyWalk are primarily observation decks, with a bar or restaurant as an extra. For a view with no minimum spend, also look at the Chao Phraya Sky Park, a public walkway above the river, or our guide to Bangkok viewpoints.

Dress code

View of Lumphini Park from the Mahanakhon terrace

Most rooftops turn away flip-flops, beach sandals, very short shorts and sportswear. Bring closed shoes or smart sandals, long trousers or a long skirt, and a light jacket: the air conditioning is strong indoors and the wind picks up at height. The exact rules are on each bar's website.

When to go

  • At sunset: the best moment, and the most in demand. Book when you can, especially from November to February (see the best time to visit Bangkok).
  • In the rainy season: a late-afternoon storm can close an open terrace. Ask whether there is an indoor room and what happens if the venue cancels.
  • After dinner: the night view is calmer and the wait is shorter.

Prices and booking

Cocktail menus are expensive compared with the rest of the city, and some venues ask for a minimum spend or a reservation. Prices change, so we do not give any. For dinner with a view rather than a drink, read our restaurants with a view in Bangkok; for the rest of the evening, see Bangkok at night.

Getting there

  • Sky Bar: BTS Saphan Taksin, then a few minutes by taxi or shuttle.
  • Red Sky: BTS Siam or Chit Lom, then the covered walkway to CentralWorld.
  • Octave: BTS Thong Lo, on the Sukhumvit line.
  • Vertigo: near Lumphini Park; a taxi is simplest in the evening.

Tips

  • Carry your passport or photo ID: some bars ask for it.
  • Alcohol is regulated in Thailand: see alcohol rules in Bangkok.
  • Check the bill: service charge and tax are often added to the menu price.
