Chao Phraya Sky Park: the hanging garden above the river, access and opening hours

Updated on October 5, 2026

The Chao Phraya Sky Park is a pedestrian promenade of about 280 metres, suspended above the Chao Phraya on the Phra Pok Klao Bridge, between the Phra Nakhon bank, near the Pak Khlong Talat flower market, and the Thonburi side. It was built on the central viaduct left unfinished by the old Lavalin elevated-train project and opened to the public in 2020. People come for the flowering shrubs, the river breeze and an open view of the Memorial Bridge, Wat Arun and the towers of Charoen Krung, without paying: entry is free. Allow 30 to 45 minutes; the walk combines easily with the flower market and Wat Arun.

Highlights

The view over the river

The view over the river

From the middle of the walkway, the eye follows the curve of the Chao Phraya, the shuttle boats, the temples on the bank and, in the distance, the skyscrapers of Sathorn and Silom. It is the place where the river is best seen without taking a boat, and the quietest around sunset.

The Memorial Bridge

The Memorial Bridge

The walkway runs alongside the Phra Phutthayotfa Bridge, known as the Memorial Bridge, whose white pylons and green steel frame can be seen up close. It is a reminder that this crossing dates from 1932 and that the Sky Park occupies a more recent structure built next to it.

The promenade is lined with oleanders and other shrubs planted along stepped benches. Shade remains rare: this is a garden at height, exposed to sun and wind.

The access ramp on the Phra Nakhon side

The park is reached by stairs and ramps from the approaches to the bridge, on the Pak Khlong Talat side; ask on site if you have a pushchair or wheelchair, as access is not the same at each end.

Tips

Entry is free. There is almost no shade: avoid the middle of the day and bring water and a hat. The bridge stays open to traffic beside the promenade, with constant background noise. For a good evening, go up in the late afternoon for the sunset, then head down to dinner in the lanes of Talat Noi or Charoen Krung. No services (toilets, shops) are listed on the promenade: use the cafés of Pak Khlong Talat before going up.
