Pak Khlong Talat: Bangkok's flower market by night

Updated on October 1, 2026

Pak Khlong Talat, "the market at the mouth of the canal", spreads around Chak Phet Road on the banks of the Chao Phraya, between the Memorial Bridge and Rajini School. Once a floating market and later a fish market, it turned to flowers in the late 1950s and remains Thailand's largest wholesale flower market. It runs 24 hours a day and entry is free. By day, the stalls sell mostly fruit and vegetables. In the evening and through the night, roses, orchids, lilies and marigolds arrive by lorry from the provinces, and trading peaks before dawn. Allow an hour to walk through the halls and the street stalls, longer if you carry on to the river.

Highlights

The cut-flower halls

Along Chak Phet Road, the stalls overflow with buckets of roses, gerberas and lilies sold by the bunch. The area is made up of four separate markets, one public and three private, which you cross without noticing.

The jasmine garlands

At the stalls, vendors thread phuang malai by hand: garlands of jasmine, rosebuds and amaranth. They are used as offerings in temples and on household altars.

The orchids

The orchids

Orchids, Thai-grown or imported, are piled up in long bunches on the wholesale stalls. The market ranks among the largest orchid markets in the world.

The Memorial Bridge and Yodpiman River Walk

The Memorial Bridge, or Phra Phuttha Yodfa Bridge, opened in 1932 to mark 150 years of the Chakri dynasty and the founding of Bangkok, can be crossed on foot; a statue of King Rama I stands at its foot. Just behind the market, Yodpiman River Walk, a colonial-style building opened in 2016, brings together cafés, restaurants and shops with terraces over the river.
