Bangkok Marathon 2026-2027: dates, course, registration and tips
Bangkok hosts two major races that are easy to confuse: the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok (28-29 November 2026 according to the Thai press and Time Out, World Athletics label, 2026: entries already full according to a specialist site) and the "classic" Bangkok Marathon, whose date remains to be confirmed: one source says 15 November 2026, two others (Time Out and TAGTHAi) say 10 January 2027, with registration open until 31 October 2026 or until bibs run out. Starts are at night (midnight or 2am) because of the heat, near the Grand Palace. Check the date on the organiser's official site before booking flights and a hotel.
Highlights

The historic course
The classic race is announced to start on Sanam Chai Road near the Grand Palace, crossing the Chao Phraya and finishing in front of the Grand Palace (Wat Arun and the Rama VIII Bridge are among the landmarks mentioned). In the photo, runners pass the Democracy Monument during the 2025 Amazing Thailand Marathon.
The night starts
The marathon starts around midnight or 2am to avoid the heat; according to one source the Amazing Thailand half marathon starts at 4am from MBK Center (to be confirmed). To cheer or take photos, look at the route near Sanam Luang and the Grand Palace.
Registration
The fee announced by Time Out for the classic race starts at 550 THB for Thais and 830 THB for foreigners; check the fee for your distance on the organiser's site. The Amazing Thailand Marathon sold out within days in July 2026: register as soon as entries open next year.
Other races
Bangkok holds races all year (for example a half marathon along Rama III, the QSNCC Half Marathon, in August); check a race calendar.
Practical info
Tips
- Expect road closures around the old town on race night: bus diversions and taxis that are hard to find. Book a hotel near the start (see where to stay in Bangkok) and plan to get back by MRT or boat in the morning. Even at night it is hot and humid: hydrate, avoid the sun the day after, and read our tips on Bangkok in the heat. Also check your insurance (see travel insurance).
How to get there
Classic race start: Sanam Chai Road, near the Grand Palace. MRT Blue Line, Sanam Chai station, then on foot; on race night public transport does not run at those hours, so book a hotel nearby. MBK Center (half-marathon start according to one source) is linked to BTS National Stadium station.
