Sunset time

Rough guide, give or take half an hour: November to January around 17:40-18:00; February to April around 18:15-18:30; May to August around 18:30-18:50; September-October around 17:50-18:15. The cool season (November to February) gives the clearest sky; in the rainy season clouds often hide the sun, and the pollution haze of January-March veils the horizon.

Where to watch: the ranking

  1. The river, on a cruise: the finest show, with Wat Arun and the Grand Palace lit up. Dinner cruises (buffet, music, two hours) are the most booked; see the dinner cruise on the Chao Phraya. Note: according to Klook, some sunset cruises will not pass Wat Arun and the Grand Palace on 28 October and 6 November 2026 because of Royal Barge Procession rehearsals.
  2. Chao Phraya Sky Park: a free walkway on a bridge, open daily 05:00 to 20:00 according to recent sources. Go up from 16:30. See the Sky Park.
  3. Wat Arun from the opposite bank: stand on the Tha Tien pier side, the sun sets behind the prang. The temple closes at 18:00. See Wat Arun.
  4. Mahanakhon SkyWalk: the 15:30 to 19:00 slot is the sunset one, and costs more; book in high season. See the Mahanakhon SkyWalk.
  5. Baiyoke Sky: about 450 baht, drink included at the 83rd-floor bar (seen in October 2026), open 10:00 to 22:00. See Baiyoke Sky.
  6. Rooftop bars: a drink at sunset, smart dress required. See the rooftop bars of Bangkok.
  7. Santichaiprakan Park: a free riverside park on the Banglamphu side. See Santichaiprakan Park.

How to choose

  • As a couple or on honeymoon: dinner cruise, then a rooftop.
  • On a budget: Sky Park, then the river ferry (orange flag) for a few baht.
  • Photographers: Wat Arun from Tha Tien, or an observation deck on a clear day.
