Shopping in Siam: Siam Paragon, MBK, CentralWorld and Siam Square

Updated on October 1, 2026

Around BTS Siam station, in the Pathumwan district, stand Bangkok's largest shopping centres: Siam Paragon, Siam Center, Siam Discovery, MBK Center and, a little further east towards the Ratchaprasong intersection, CentralWorld. Opposite, the open-air district of Siam Square lines its lanes with shops, cafés and tutoring schools attended by students from the nearby Chulalongkorn University. The big malls open every day from 10:00 to 22:00 and are linked by covered walkways, so you can move from one to the next sheltered from the heat and the rain. People come as much for the air conditioning, the food courts and the cinemas as for the shopping.

Highlights

Siam Paragon and the Sea Life aquarium

Siam Paragon and the Sea Life aquarium

Opened in 2005 at 991 Rama I Road and directly linked to BTS Siam station, Siam Paragon brings together luxury brands, a department store, a multiplex cinema and, on the ground floor, a large gourmet grocery and food hall. In the basement, the Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World aquarium covers 10,000 m² (sharks, rays, penguins, an underwater tunnel); it is open from 10:00 to 20:00, last entry 19:00, and tickets are cheaper online than at the counter.

Siam Center

Right next to Siam Paragon, to which it is connected, Siam Center opened in 1973. Its four levels focus on fashion, with plenty of room for Thai designers, and the top floor is given over to food. Open every day from 10:00 to 22:00.

Siam Discovery

Connected to Siam Center, this mall is organised into themed "labs" (fashion, design, digital, creative hobbies, sport): it is the place for designer objects and concept stores rather than the big chains. Open every day from 10:00 to 22:00.

MBK Center

MBK Center

At 444 Phayathai Road, opposite the [BACC](/fr/attractions/bacc-centre-art-bangkok) and linked by a walkway to BTS National Stadium station, MBK has more than 2,000 shops on eight levels: phones and accessories, electronics, clothing, souvenirs, eyewear, with the feel of an indoor market where bargaining is common. Open every day from 10:00 to 22:00. [Jim Thompson House](/fr/attractions/maison-jim-thompson) is a few minutes' walk away.

CentralWorld

CentralWorld

At 999/9 Rama I Road, on the Ratchaprasong intersection, CentralWorld is the city's largest shopping complex: department stores, international and Thai brands, dozens of restaurants. Its forecourt hosts the big New Year countdown every year. Open every day from 10:00 to 22:00, it is a few steps from the [Erawan Shrine](/fr/attractions/sanctuaire-erawan-bangkok).

Siam Square

Across Rama I Road, opposite Siam Paragon, this district of numbered lanes (sois) mixes small fashion shops, cafés, dessert parlours and the Siam Square One mall. The atmosphere is younger and livelier in the late afternoon, when classes let out; opening hours depend on each shop.

Tips

The Skywalk, beneath the BTS viaduct, links BTS Siam and BTS Chit Lom stations on foot, serving Siam Paragon, CentralWorld and the Ratchaprasong intersection: it is the easiest way to get from one mall to another. VAT refund: non-resident tourists leaving by air from an international airport can reclaim VAT in shops displaying "VAT Refund for Tourists", for purchases of at least 2,000 baht including VAT per day per shop; ask for the P.P.10 form with the original tax invoices on the day of purchase (passport required), take the goods out of Thailand within 60 days and claim at the airport on your departure day, showing the goods to Customs before check-in if they total 20,000 baht or more. Prices checked in October 2026.
