Ratchada and Huai Khwang in Bangkok: night markets, street food and nightlife (2026 guide)
Ratchada (Ratchadaphisek Road) and Huai Khwang make up Bangkok's local nightlife district, on the MRT Blue Line: the Jodd Fairs night market, street-food alleys, shopping malls, karaoke bars and pubs, well away from the tourist circuit. Hotels here are cheaper than in Sukhumvit and MRT Thailand Cultural Centre is the practical entry point. Allow an evening, from 5pm. Prices are local: a dish 50 to 100 THB, a beer 80 to 150 THB.
Highlights

Jodd Fairs Ratchada
The night market most visited by travellers, open every evening from 5pm, a few minutes' walk from MRT Thailand Cultural Centre. It took over from Talad Rot Fai Ratchada (the "train market"), now closed, whose canvas roofs appear in the photo above. Details in our Jodd Fairs page.
Huai Khwang, Chinese and Thai street food
Around MRT Huai Khwang and the nearby alleys, stalls serve grilled meat, noodle soups and seafood until late; signs are often only in Thai or Chinese, so point. For more ideas see street food in Bangkok.
Ratchada nightlife
Karaoke bars, pubs and clubs line Ratchadaphisek Road; some licensed venues may stay open until 4am in the zones allowed by current rules (see Bangkok at night). Stick to places visible from the street.
Thailand Cultural Centre and the Rama 9 area
The performance hall next to the station hosts concerts and theatre; check the programme on site. The Rama 9 area, one station further, concentrates offices and malls.

Tips
- Come by MRT, not taxi: evening traffic on Ratchadaphisek Road can turn a 15-minute ride into an hour. Keep small change for the stalls. Compare prices before ordering in night venues and do not go into a place where you are pressed to order (see scams and safety in Bangkok). For a quieter night market, read the Rot Fai Srinakarin market.
How to get there
MRT Blue Line, stations Phra Ram 9, Thailand Cultural Centre, Huai Khwang and Sutthisan on Ratchadaphisek Road. Most convenient station for Jodd Fairs: Thailand Cultural Centre (exit 4). See BTS or MRT in Bangkok.
