Benjakitti Park (Benchakitti): Bangkok's urban forest, skywalks and opening hours

Updated on October 1, 2026

Benjakitti Park, also spelled Benchakitti, covers about 72 hectares in Khlong Toei district, between Ratchadaphisek Road and the Queen Sirikit convention centre, a few minutes' walk from Sukhumvit. It was built on the grounds of the former Thailand Tobacco Monopoly factory: a first park around a large lake opened in 2004, then the forest park, some forty hectares of wetlands and groves crossed by elevated walkways, opened in 2022. People come here to walk above the marshes with Bangkok's towers as a backdrop, to run or cycle around the lake, and to reach [Lumphini Park](/fr/attractions/parc-lumphini) by a pedestrian bridge. Entry is free; allow one to two hours.

Highlights

The forest park skywalks

The forest park skywalks

A network of raised walkways winds above the wetlands and between the trees preserved from the old industrial site. They give an open view of the skyscrapers of Asok and Sukhumvit, especially late in the day. This is the most photographed part of the park, and the canopy keeps much of it in shade.

The wetlands

The wetlands

The forest park, designed by the Thai firm Arsomsilp and the Chinese firm Turenscape, works like a sponge: its ponds and hundreds of small grassy islets hold rainwater in the monsoon season and clean the water of the Phai Sing To canal, which runs along the north of the park. The project was named Landscape of the Year at the 2023 World Architecture Festival. Stay on the walkways and paths: you will see water birds and sometimes monitor lizards.

The Green Bridge to Lumphini Park

The Green Bridge to Lumphini Park

This pedestrian and cycle bridge, built in 1999, links Benjakitti to Lumphini Park above the streets and rooftops of the neighbourhood, over a little more than a kilometre. Renovated by the Bangkok city authorities, it reopened along its full length on 1 May 2026, initially on a trial basis from 6am to 6pm. Walking it, you go from one of the city centre's two large parks to the other without meeting any traffic.

The lake and its tracks

The oldest part of the park is laid out around a large lake ringed by separate running and cycling tracks. In the evening, local residents come to run or walk here; the shore offers one of the most open views of the Sukhumvit towers, reflected in the water on calm days.

The former tobacco warehouses

Several single-storey warehouses of the old factory have been kept and turned into a sports complex and exhibition spaces, on the edge of the wetlands. They recall the industrial past of the site, long closed to the public.

Tips

Entry to the park, the skywalks and the Green Bridge is free. It is hot in the middle of the day and there is little shade along the lake shore: come early in the morning or in the late afternoon, with water and mosquito repellent. Some parts of the forest park are poorly lit in the evening; after dark, stay on the main loop around the lake. For half a day of nature in the city centre, combine Benjakitti and Lumphini Park via the Green Bridge, then finish in the [Sukhumvit](/fr/articles/sukhumvit-bangkok) area.

How to get there

Ratchadaphisek Road, Khlong Toei, Bangkok 10110. MRT Blue Line, Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre station: exit 3 leads to the edge of the park. From MRT Sukhumvit station or BTS Asok station (Sukhumvit Line), allow about ten minutes on foot along Ratchadaphisek Road to the northern entrance of the forest park. From Lumphini Park, reach Benjakitti on foot or by bike via the Green Bridge.

Opening hours

Idéal : Late afternoon
Every day 04:30-22:00 (hours set by the Bangkok city authorities in June 2024; several recent sources give 05:00-21:00, so aim for that window to be safe; the Green Bridge was open from 06:00 to 18:00 during its 2026 trial period)
