The Museum of Floral Culture is a small museum devoted to Thai floral art, set in a teak house more than a hundred years old in the middle of a tropical garden in the Dusit district. It was founded by Sakul Intakul, a well-known Thai florist. Photographs, documents, garlands and arrangements show how the floral art of the Thai royal court drew on the traditions of India, Cambodia, Bali and Japan. Do not confuse it with the Pak Khlong Talat flower market, which is a market, or with a botanical garden: here, the visit is a guided talk. The visit is by guided tour only and lasts about an hour, in Thai or English (several sources also mention Japanese). Allow 1h30 including the trip from central Dusit; combine it with the Vimanmek Mansion, less than 15 minutes' walk away, or with an afternoon in the Dusit district.
Highlights

The teak house and its garden
The house, more than a hundred years old, is surrounded by dense vegetation; the garden plants were chosen according to Thai geomancy principles. The wooden gallery along the façade doubles as a walkway.

The pavilion and the pond
A tiled-roof pavilion overlooks a small pond at the back of the garden. It is the most photogenic corner of the museum, away from the traffic on Samsen Road.

The garlands
Garlands of fresh flowers (phuang malai) are the centrepiece of the visit: offerings, ceremonial decorations and contemporary creations are explained by the guide, with examples of influences from India, Cambodia, Bali and Japan, including an ancient Japanese scroll.
