What you will see
Nong Nooch is a large botanical garden of several hundred hectares (the size varies by guide), about fifteen kilometres south of Pattaya. You stroll between themed gardens, topiaries, ponds and the "Dinosaur Valley", with life-size dinosaurs. Shows of Thai dance and traditions take place several times a day; resellers mention sessions around 10:30, 11:30, 13:30 and 15:30, which you should confirm on site. The garden also offers an elephant show: if animal welfare matters to you, skip it and look at our elephant sanctuaries from Bangkok instead.
Where to sleep for this itinerary. Stay in Sukhumvit: it is the most practical area for leaving in the morning and getting back in the evening. Compare hotels with free cancellation in Sukhumvit and see our where-to-stay guide (Bangkok) to pick the neighbourhood.
Getting there from Bangkok
- On your own: bus from Bangkok to Pattaya (about 2 hours in good conditions), then a taxi, Grab or songthaew to the garden. Plan the local ride and your return before nightfall, as transport becomes scarce in the evening.
- On a day trip: the one-day offer from Bangkok handles the journey and adds a floating market; the trade-off is limited time in the garden.
- With a driver: see our guide Pattaya from Bangkok to compare train, bus and private car.
Pitfalls
- Heat and sun: the site is very large with little shade; arrive at opening time, with water, a hat and sunscreen.
- "Foreigner" ticket: the rate is reserved for non-Thai visitors; keep your passport or a copy with you.
- Extras: the internal shuttle, shows and animals are sometimes charged extra depending on the option.
- Overloaded day: Nong Nooch plus the Sanctuary of Truth plus an island in the same day means a lot of travel. See Koh Larn from Bangkok and the Sanctuary of Truth to choose.
Which option to choose?
- One night in Pattaya: the ticket alone, bought online.
- Just one day from Bangkok: the day trip with floating market.
- With children: the ticket with show, and a break in the shade; see also Bangkok with kids.
