Trip from Bangkok
The "all organised" option: a long round trip, a visit to the Sanctuary of Truth, a huge carved-wood temple (our page: Sanctuary of Truth), then the crossing to Koh Larn. It suits anyone with a single day. The trade-off: it is a long day, time on the island is short, and you do not pick your beach.
Trip from Pattaya
If you sleep in Pattaya, start there and skip the drive from Bangkok. The seafood-lunch offer covers the boat and the meal and leaves you time on the sand. See also Pattaya from Bangkok.
Going on your own
Take a bus to Pattaya, then the public ferry from Bali Hai Pier at the end of Walking Street: about 45 minutes to Na Ban, 40 baht since 10 April 2026, cash (figures from our Pattaya guide). The last return leaves Na Ban around 6 pm. Speedboats take 15 to 20 minutes and cost more. Buy at the pier's ticket booth, not from a tout.
Pitfalls
- Overloaded day: Sanctuary and island on the same day from Bangkok means a lot of road.
- Weather: rough seas in the rainy season; crossings are sometimes changed.
- Extras on the island: jet skis, banana boats and sunbeds cost extra; agree the price first, and beware "damage" claims when you return a jet ski.
- Last boat: do not miss it if you came alone.
- Sun and cash: bring sunscreen and cash.
Which one to choose
- One day, no logistics: the trip from Bangkok.
- A night in Pattaya: the Pattaya-start offer with lunch.
- Tight budget, independent: bus and public ferry.
- With children: plan breaks, see Bangkok with children.
