How the day unfolds
Pickup is early in the morning (around 6:30-7:00 depending on the area, according to reseller descriptions; the exact time is on your voucher). The bus takes about 1 to 1.5 hours to reach Ayutthaya. Each temple takes 30 to 40 minutes. The programme described includes Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Wat Mahathat (the Buddha head caught in tree roots), Wat Lokayasutharam (the large reclining Buddha) and Wat Chaiwatthanaram. The return is by boat on the Chao Phraya, with a Thai and international buffet lunch served on board, ending at River City in Bangkok. See the tour.
Departures and arrivals vary by reseller: some mention departure from River City, others a hotel pickup. Read the meeting point on your listing before paying.
What is included and what is not
- Included: air-conditioned bus, guided commentary, cruise, buffet lunch on board, water and cool towels on the boat.
- To check: temple entrance fees (50 baht per major temple for foreigners, 220 baht with the six-temple combined ticket, rates from our Ayutthaya page, October 2026). The descriptions we read do not mention them clearly.
- End of the day: the cruise ends at River City, not necessarily at your hotel: plan a taxi or a Grab to get back.
- Dress code: shoulders and knees covered; avoid sandals, shorts, short skirts and tank tops; see our page on dress for temples.
For or against?
For: no driving, no car ride back in the late-afternoon traffic, lunch included, and the only tour in our selection that brings you back along the river.
Against: a long day, a group pace (30 to 40 minutes per temple), little time to wander; the cruise is mostly worth it for the lunch and the views of the banks, not for the temples.
Cruise, group tour or train?
- You want to relax and have lunch included: this cruise tour.
- You want to pay less and keep it shorter: the small-group tour with lunch, detailed in our comparison of Ayutthaya day trips.
- You like organising it yourself: the train from Krung Thep Aphiwat station; see our train day trips from Bangkok. You save money and gain freedom, but lose the guide and the boat.
