Central Embassy: the luxury shopping mall of Phloen Chit

Central Embassy is an upmarket shopping mall in the Phloen Chit area of Pathumwan district, at 1031 Phloen Chit Road. It brings together luxury boutiques, a department store, restaurants and a hotel, and is recognisable by its curved silver façade. It is open every day from 10 am to 10 pm and entry is free. People come for the architecture, the air conditioning and the large Eathai food court in the basement rather than for cheap shopping. Allow 1 to 2 hours. Highlights

The ribbon façade

The building is recognisable from afar by its silver aluminium silhouette winding around the tower, seen here from above. It stands among the office blocks and hotels of Phloen Chit, a few minutes from the Ratchaprasong intersection.

Eathai, the basement food court

Eathai gathers regional Thai cuisines in an air-conditioned hall, reached directly from Phloen Chit BTS station; it is open from 10 am to 9:30 pm. The menus show prices: look before ordering. See also the food courts of Bangkok.

International luxury brands, Thai designers and a department store fill the floors. It is a mall for looking and strolling; prices are those of the high end.

Entry is free. The mall is linked by walkway to the Ratchaprasong intersection: you can continue on foot to CentralWorld and Siam without leaving the covered area. How to get there

1031 Phloen Chit Road, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330. BTS Sukhumvit line to Phloen Chit (exit 5, which leads straight into the mall) or to Chit Lom, a few minutes' walk along the walkway.
