The options at a glance
| Option | Price seen | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Official ticket (gate or the palace's site) | 500 THB | Budget, self-guided visit |
| Tiqets "direct entry" ticket | From €20.69 | Paying in euros, holding the ticket before you arrive |
| Walking tour (Tiqets, 2 h 30) | From €16.09 | Understanding what you see |
Read on the palace's official site and on the Tiqets Grand Palace page on 30 October 2026. The palace is open daily from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm; ticket sales stop at 3:30 pm. Our page on the Grand Palace has the route through the compound.
Official ticket or Tiqets?
The palace's site says foreigners can buy at the entrance or online. Our own page notes that official online sales open up to a month ahead and that those tickets cannot be refunded or changed. The Tiqets "direct entry" ticket showed from €20.69 (3.1 out of 5 from 12 reviews on 30 October): that is more than 500 THB, so you are mainly paying for the convenience of buying in euros before you leave. Read what the listing includes before paying, and note how few reviews there are.
Dress code: what stops people at the gate
The official site rules out sleeveless tops, vests, short or see-through tops, shorts, torn or tight trousers, mini skirts and sleepwear. Covered shoulders and knees is the safe rule. Our guide to the dress code in Bangkok's temples covers the borderline cases. Drones are not allowed over the palace.
The morning slot
Arrive at 8:30 am, when the gates open: the heat is bearable and tour groups come later. Allow 2 to 3 hours for Wat Phra Kaew and the courtyards. The palace can close for royal ceremonies; notices are posted on the official site. Afterwards, Wat Pho is a ten-minute walk away.
When a guided tour is worth it
Without a guide, the throne halls and the Ramakien murals go unexplained. Two options: the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun guided tour on GetYourGuide, or the Tiqets walking tour. Check whether the entrance ticket is included or paid on the spot. Our comparison of the guided tours of the Grand Palace, Wat Pho and Wat Arun covers the offers.
