When is the Full Moon Party?
The party takes place every month around the full moon. The calendars we checked give 24 November (Tuesday), 24 December (Thursday) and 31 December (Thursday) for the end of 2026; one source gives 26 or 27 for October, a sign that dates should be rechecked. Late November is the island's wettest period: expect rain and sometimes rough seas (see the best time to visit). 31 December is the busiest night, and accommodation sells out very early. For New Year in Bangkok itself, see our New Year guide.
From Bangkok to Koh Phangan
There is no direct flight. Two routes:
- Overland: night train or bus to Chumphon or Surat Thani, then a catamaran or ferry. Durations, stations and indicative prices: Bangkok to Koh Phangan and Koh Tao.
- By air: flight Bangkok to Koh Samui, then a fast boat to Koh Phangan. The Samui leg is detailed in Bangkok to Koh Samui.
Arrive the day before or on the morning of the party, never the same day with a tight connection: in the rainy season, some crossings are cancelled.
Which offer to book
GetYourGuide's offers for this party depart from the island, not from Bangkok. The Koh Samui package with tickets and round-trip transfer is the best known: it combines the shuttle, return boat and party entry, with free cancellation up to 24 hours before according to the listing. Return boats are offered from about 1 a.m.; reviews mention waits for the shuttle, so keep a margin. For a different setup, the night tour from Samui is the alternative. If you already sleep on Koh Phangan, you only need the entry.
Premium option: we have not verified any multi-day or private package departing from Bangkok; if you find one, check carefully what is included (transport, boat, accommodation) before paying.
Safety and common sense
- Drinks: always watch your glass; avoid buckets of unknown composition.
- Belongings: take little, a waterproof pouch and only the essentials; leave your passport at the hotel, with a photo on your phone.
- Drugs: Thai law is strict and checks happen; see cannabis and rules in Bangkok.
- Getting back: note the time of the last boat; a night scooter ride and alcohol do not mix.
- Scams: inflated taxi prices, scooter rentals asking for your passport as a deposit. The habits from our scams and safety page apply on the island too.
Where to stay
Haad Rin is the most convenient, but prices rise sharply on party nights and many places require a minimum stay. The quieter beaches in the north or west work if you accept a taxi back. Compare Koh Phangan on Booking in advance. For the overall trip budget, see the Bangkok budget.
