The road route (if the border reopens)

Direct buses used to leave Mo Chit for Phnom Penh via Poipet, and a third-class train (about 50 THB according to a guide) ran to Aranyaprathet, going no further than the border. After Poipet, a bus or minivan goes to Phnom Penh. Do not book anything by road without recent confirmation. Beware of agencies at the border selling a fake, overpriced "visa" (see scams and safety in Bangkok).

Visa and formalities

Cambodia requires a visa for most nationalities, often obtained online (e-visa) before departure: check the fee and timing on the Cambodian government's official site. For your return to Thailand, see visa and entry to Thailand, as land entries are limited each year.
