Chang Chui is a creative market on the Thonburi side, at 460/8 Sirindhorn Road (Bang Phlat), west of the Chao Phraya River. On a site of about 1.7 hectares, it mixes designer shops, graffiti galleries, scrap-metal sculptures, bars, restaurants and, in the middle, a former airliner turned into a restaurant. The place is liveliest in the late afternoon and evening. Hours vary by source (roughly 11:00 to 23:00, with a weekly closing day reported as Wednesday): confirm them before you come. Entry to the site is, from what we have read, free; you only pay for what you buy.
Highlights
The plane restaurant
A retired airliner has been set down in the middle of the site and fitted out as a restaurant. It is very often full: book ahead if you want to dine there, otherwise just photograph it from outside.
The galleries and sculptures
Thai artists have painted murals and installed sculptures made of recycled objects, in a slightly post-apocalyptic mood lit by neon. The site can be covered in an hour or two, on foot and with no set route.
The green zone and the night zone
The site has two moods: a daytime part with shops, cafés and desserts, and an evening part with the bars. The alcohol-free areas suit families; the bars open mainly at nightfall.
The designer shops
Clothes, ceramics, home décor and small craft items: a good place to find souvenirs less standard than those at Chatuchak, described in our guide what to bring back from Bangkok.

Tips
No entry fee could be confirmed on an official site; the site is presented as free. Food and drinks cost more than at a street market. To dine in the plane, book ahead. Keep some cash: some shops do not take cards. In the evening, go home by taxi or ride-hailing: the metro station is several minutes away by road.
How to get there
