Organising a kosher stay
| Need | What to do |
|---|---|
| Kosher restaurants | Ask Chabad Thailand for the current list before leaving |
| Shabbat meals | Book with Chabad or a kosher restaurant before Thursday |
| Hotel | Room with a fridge and kettle; an area near the synagogue or Chabad |
| Fruit and vegetables | Markets and supermarkets: everything is available, wash and check |
| Flight | Order the kosher meal 48 hours ahead |
How to check that a place is kosher
Ask for the supervision certificate (hechsher) and the name of the authority that issued it. Thai dishes often contain fish sauce, shrimp or pork: without supervision they are not kosher. For an idea of what other travellers eat, see street food in Bangkok and Chinatown.
Seeing the city
For the day, a walking visit of temples and markets is a good base: ask the operator not to include a meal, then eat separately. To sleep, read hotel or aparthotel in Bangkok.
