Damnoen Saduak + Maeklong as a group: the budget pick

The Damnoen Saduak floating market is visited in the morning with a motorboat ride, then the coach continues to the Maeklong railway market. Expect about 1 h 30 on the road each way. It is the simplest option, but the guiding is that of a large group: you follow a timetable. See the tour.

Train market + floating market with boat ride

This one does the floating market first (a boat ride of about 20 minutes), then the train market, with drop-off at Banglamphu, MBK or Hua Lamphong station depending on the option. It offers an audio guide in several languages. The boat ride is not suitable for guests over 100 kg or taller than 1.85 m; a separate boat then costs an extra 250 baht. Do not book it for a day when you have a flight. See the tour.

Maeklong + Amphawa + fireflies: for the end of the day

The group is small (9 people at most): train market, Wat Bang Kung with its banyan roots, the Amphawa floating market, then a boat trip at dusk to see fireflies. Amphawa is liveliest from Friday to Sunday; on weekdays the canal is quieter. One traveller noted that fireflies are most visible in the rainy season. See the tour.

Maeklong + floating market, private

A driver takes you to both markets, with hotel pickup. The listing says that without the guide option the visit is self-guided; drivers speak several languages, including English, French and German. It advises booking the boat through the tour to avoid inflated prices on site. Two versions of the listing describe the itinerary differently, so reread it before paying. See the tour.

Floating and railway markets with a multilingual guide

The guide is chosen to match your ticket language: English, Chinese, French, German, Italian or Spanish. The programme is a private motorboat at Damnoen Saduak, then the train market. It is not accessible to wheelchairs or strollers. It costs the most per person, but it is the only tour in this list that clearly promises a live guide in your language. See the tour.

What is not included / pitfalls

  • The train is not guaranteed. It reaches Maeklong at 8:30, 11:10, 14:30 and 17:40 (SRT times seen in October 2026). Some tours may arrive between passes: ask for the planned arrival time before booking.
  • The order of the stops follows the train schedule. Damnoen Saduak is a morning market, so it often comes first, then Maeklong for the 11:10 pass. With Amphawa the order is reversed: that floating market opens in the afternoon, Friday to Sunday.
  • Meals, drinks and shopping are generally not included. Bring cash: some stalls do not take cards.
  • Boats at some markets cost extra (see the boat-ride tour) and on-site prices are high for tourists.
  • Early start: some tours leave around 6:00 or 6:30, which helps with the crowds.

Which tour should you choose?

Booking at the right time

Book a few days ahead in high season (November to February). For Amphawa, pick a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Times and prices change: confirm them on the listing, which states whether free cancellation (often up to 24 hours before) applies.
