Which mode for which traveller

  • Tight budget: minivan or bus with ferry, as a combined ticket.
  • Comfort and luggage: private taxi to the pier (about 5 h 20 by road according to listings), then ferry.
  • Koh Kood without the hassle: a speedboat combined with a transfer, sold by the ferry operators.
  • You want to sleep on Koh Chang first: cross on day one, continue to Koh Kood later.

Once there, a boat day trip around Koh Chang with snorkelling is easy to book in advance.

Getting to Koh Chang

Minivans and buses leave in the morning (often around 9 or 9:30 am) from the Eastern terminal (Ekkamai) and Mo Chit, or from agency meeting points, arriving on Koh Chang in the mid-afternoon. The trip ends with a ferry from Laem Ngop to the island. According to one traveller, the real duration is closer to 6 h 30: allow a margin. To reach the terminal from your hotel, see the guide to getting around Bangkok; for airports, see Bangkok's airports.

Getting to Koh Kood

Koh Kood is reached from the Laem Sok pier, further along the coast than Laem Ngop. Two operators, including Boonsiri High Speed Ferries and Seudamgo, run the crossing of about 1 h to Ao Salad pier, with about seven departures a day according to a March 2026 timetable, to be confirmed. Fares vary a lot by operator and date. A combined Bangkok–Koh Kood ticket (minivan + boat) is the simplest solution.

Season and weather

In this area the sea is at its best from November to April or so; from May to October, rain and swell can cancel crossings and some Koh Kood accommodation closes. Check that hotels and boats are running before going in the rainy season. See also the best time to visit Bangkok.
