Which option for your hotel

First look at where your group is staying. The train stops at Phaya Thai and Makkasan, on the BTS and MRT network: it is the most reliable way to reach Siam, Sukhumvit, Silom or Pratunam because it avoids traffic. For the Old Town and Khao San Road, no train goes to the door: the S1 bus or a taxi is more direct. For a riverside address, or when arriving with children, a private vehicle saves you changing trains with suitcases. To choose a district, see where to stay in Bangkok.

By train: the Airport Rail Link

The Airport Rail Link platform at Suvarnabhumi

The station is on level B1 of the main terminal: from the arrivals hall (level 2), follow the "Airport Rail Link" signs. Trains run every day from 5:30 am to midnight, roughly every 10 to 15 minutes. A ticket costs 15 to 45 THB depending on distance: 35 THB to Makkasan, 45 THB to Phaya Thai. At Phaya Thai a walkway leads to the BTS (two stops to Siam); at Makkasan a walkway reaches the MRT's Phetchaburi station. You buy a new ticket each time you change network. At rush hour the train is packed, which makes big suitcases awkward. Full details are on our Airport Rail Link page.

By bus: the S1 for the Old Town

The BMTA S1 bus links the airport to Khao San Road and Sanam Luang, near the Grand Palace, for about 60 THB. It runs from 6 am to 8 pm and leaves from the front of the main terminal, level 1, gate 7. Journey time depends on traffic: allow plenty of margin in the late afternoon.

By taxi or Grab

Public taxis wait 24 hours a day on level 1, between gates 4 and 7. Take a ticket from the machine: it shows your bay number. The fare follows the meter, plus a 50 THB airport surcharge paid to the driver; expressway tolls are on you, so keep small notes. Insist on the meter and refuse a flat fare quoted up front. With the Grab app, pick-up is on level 1, gate 4, outside, at a price fixed when you book. To compare, read Grab or taxi in Bangkok and our tips on scams.

If you would rather not look for a taxi on arrival (night flight, family, lots of luggage, first visit), Welcome Pickups offers a private transfer booked in advance: a fixed price agreed before you travel, an English-speaking driver waiting in the arrivals hall with a sign with your name, and flight tracking if you are delayed. Price seen on their site in October 2026, BKK → Bangkok: from €30 for a sedan. Read the cancellation terms shown on their site before booking. If you travel light and are not in a hurry, public transport remains cheaper.
